My love for Missoni is well-documented on the pages of Style At Home - just take a look at September's Style News Palette and my apartment as seen in the June issue and the proof is in the pudding. So you can imagine my delight when a hook-up through Target's Minneapolis headquarters resulted in my mother and I being invited to the New York City launch party of the Missoni for Target collection on Wednesday night! The only thing better than Missoni is affordable Missoni, so between the juicy look book pics and a dazzling ad campaign starring the fashion family's gorgeous granddaughter Margherita, the anticipation of the famed Italian family's collaboration with the bargain big-box chain had guests in a frenzy as doors opened. With over-scaled drum pendants emblazoned with the famous black and white chevron pattern and spotlights of Target's famous bullseye dotting the plush purple carpet, the two-storey structure was a sight to behold. Although it took mere minutes for the shelves and racks to empty, clever styling showcased the variety of items that Target is rolling out next week, which encompasses everything from luggage, bikes and bedding to stationery, tabletop and of course clothing. The quality of the items was great, and my mother and I acted quickly, snagging a few bagfuls of some of our top picks for the rest of the family. I even managed to collect a couple of the special requests from the rest of the Style At Home team to bring back to the office (a certain Margot Austin was quite excited to receive the coveted rain boots). Even a reporter from the Wall Street Journal noticed our heaving bags and quoted me about our excitement and special trip for the launch! A show-stopping giant sized doll named Marina was on display and "tweeting" on her giant iPhone throughout the night via the help of some strong-armed puppeteers. Other special touches were the adorable mini apps and desserts that were passed around on special Missoni platters. We had so much fun people watching and taking in the fabulosity of the start of New York Fashion Week, but despite encountering a flurry of celebs, ranging from Rachel Zoe to Malin Akerman, I must say I only had eyes for Margherita. I loved watching her and the rest of the Missoni family mingle graciously with their guests and even got a quick picture with her. The collection isn't officially released to the public until Tuesday September 13th, but if you're near the border get yourself to the nearest Target to take advantage!
