Antiques and flea markets
If you're driving through P.E.I., you'll come across numerous roadside antique shops, but don't panic if you're only visiting Charlottetown. Sundays offer both the Charlottetown Mall Flea Market & Craft Show (902-621-1999, 670 University Ave.), where numerous vendors ply their wares, as well as the Oak Tree Flea Market (Charlottetown Civic Centre, 23 Warburton Dr., 902-892-3694), each definitely worth a leisurely once-over.
Notable standalone Charlottetown antique and vintage shops include Granny's Corner (902-628-6697, 63 University Ave.), known for its primitives, vintage furniture, glassware, vintage hardware, china, mat work, collectibles and more, and Details Past & Present (166 Richmond St., 902-892-2233), the place to go if you're after quality period furniture, baskets, glassware and hooked rugs as well as contemporary art by local artists.
Peake's Wharf
Charlottetown's historic waterfront offers shopping, supping and relaxation galore. Be sure to visit Peake's Wharf, open May through October, for its boutiques and craft shops, which offer giftware to suit every taste. Bayberry Lane (902-892-5351, bayberrylanepei.com) offers real P.E.I. flavour, with a great selection of garden decor, vintage-style wooden toys, Pure Ice soot-free soy candles and locally made pottery. Also at Peake's Wharf, The Village Weavery (902-368-2995) offers pottery, weavery, P.E.I.-made crafts and body products.
