Saskatoon is one of the sunniest cities in Canada -- it gets about 2,380 hours of sunlight per year. Why not make the most of it and spend a lazy Sunday touring the best boutiques in the city? (Sunscreen is recommended.)
Treat your best friend to a surprise with a unique hydrangea or gerbera daisy arrangement from Blossoms (111-1526 Eighth St. E.; 800-363-3355; blossomsflorists.com). The shop, which offers non-traditional arrangements for any occasion, opened nine years ago. Also found at the boutique are works of original art, vases and other pottery, flowerpots, mugs, sweetly scented candles, and a line of luxury bath and body products.
Whether you're looking for a solid pine bedroom suite or a made-to-order oak bookcase, Oaksmith Interiors (819 2nd Ave. N.; 306-934-1733) has it. With a wide range of wood furnishings, you could fill your home with rich traditional cherry pieces, or just buy one spectacular modern maple accessory for your foyer. The showroom features realistic setups that are fully accessorized to demonstrate the feel of the furniture in a home. If you see something you love, but it's the wrong colour or type of wood, the store offers a custom option. The great prices and friendly, non-commission staff are a bonus while you shop.
When you're not busy shopping, you'll be spending a lot of time in the garden this summer. A few visits to Garden Architecture & Design (315 Ave. A S; 306-651-2828) should help. While browsing through their own exquisite collection of furniture, accessories, art and gifts, you'll stumble upon beautiful garden accents. The store features a blend of contemporary and classical garden sets, which are carefully selected from around the globe by owners Neil Robinson and Delores Wionzek. A number of accessories are also available, complete with an exclusive line of delicately scented garden candles.
