Where to eat and drink: Grackle Coffee Company
I can honestly say that the Grackle Coffee Company is one of my favourite cafes in the world and, to boot, they have the most delicious chocolate chip cookies. This place is reason enough to travel to Schomberg. 208 Main St., gracklecoffee.com.

What to do: A Main Street Christmas
A Main Street Christmas has become a true celebration in this lovely little town. There’s lots to see and do at this one-day event, including musicians and carollers, Santa and his reindeer, food and drink tastings and special gifts. The grand finale is the famous Farmers’ Parade of Lights, with tractors decked in a spectacular show of lights, which starts at 8 p.m, schomberg.ca. style-dest-schomberg-restaurant.jpg

Where to eat: The Scruffy Duck

Located in a former feed mill on picturesque Main Street, The Scruffy Duck hasn’t lost any of its old charm with its soaring ceiling and hardwood floors. If you’re in an indulgent mood, try the restaurant’s juicy 10-ounce burger. 357 Main St., 905-939-7772. style-dest-schomberg-candle.jpg

Where to shop: La Maison Boutique
In keeping with Schomberg’s historic, rural atmosphere, La Maison Boutique offers classic French country-style furniture, as well as elegant linens and home accessories. I stocked up on beautiful Christmas gifts, including these Apothecary Guild scented candles (from $39) with glass domes. 214 Main St., lamaisonmmx.com.
