How to: Make a reupholstered stool

Materials

  • Stool
  • Steel wool
  • Spray primer
  • Spray paint
  • Fabric
  • Scissors
  • Staple gun

Instructions

1 Remove the seat from the stool. Rub the stool frame with steel wool to remove flaking paint or rust, then prime and paint. Allow it to dry completely.

To reupholster the seat, turn it upside down onto the wrong side of a piece of fabric. Cut the fabric 4" larger than the seat all around.

Wrap the fabric around the seat and pull taut on one side, then staple. Repeat on the three remaining sides, stapling the fabric every inch or so and pulling taut as you go. Cut away the excess fabric and reattach the seat to the stool.
