Who doesn’t love a sectional? This style of sofa has become everyone’s favourite. The modular aspect provides the ultimate flexibility, and with a little decorating magic, this versatile piece can take on the starring role in diverse settings.

After Hours

If the room is used primarily for entertaining, go for drama. Paint the walls matte black, splurge on dark velvet drapes, and opt for a black rug. Add character with a chandelier and statement artwork, then layer in black accents. Flowers and cushions in mid-tones will bridge the pink sofa with the darker side of your decor.

Soft Side

At the opposite end of the colour spectrum is a light and airy setting. Panel a light-coloured wall to create shadows and pattern, which add interest without disturbing the calm, elegant effect of white walls. Next, layer in cushions in different tones and shades of the sofa colour to keep the mood beautifully subdued, but not boring. A round coffee table topped with accents in organic shapes reinforces the softness of the space.

Down to earth

A colourful area rug is the foundation for the dessert vibe in this room. Muted tones of terracotta, mustard, soft blue and cream were all pulled from the rug’s linear pattern. Its strong graphic quality is echoed by the spikey plant, cactus artwork and patterned accent cushion. A modern candleholder and twisted piece of driftwood keep the mood muted and organic.
