  • The entryway proper was treated to new panelling (which carries up the staircase) in homage to the home’s traditional architecture. It gives tone-on-tone dimension to the airy white walls. Colourful pops unite the space with the vestibule and the rest of the house.

  • A masterful colour story was built by repeating hues; note the smoky blue vase and the vintage Lotte lamp that link to accent colours in the wallpaper. Custom artwork reflects in the mirror.

  • The family-heirloom table and vintage chair take pride of place in the space; Tori mixed in modern elements to keep the design fresh. The dark wood table echoes the dark blue vestibule and contrasts the white walls, so its vintage lines shine. The chair’s curves soften the space and connect to the round mirror.

  • Note how the lamp’s linen shade links to the chair fabric, modern vase and candle. Although the space reads as colourful, there are plenty of neutrals that provide quiet relief and build a textural story.

  • A single reed of feathery grass brings a sculptural organic element and height. Hint: Stylists vary the heights of objects to keep the composition dynamic.

  • Two books under the lamp added just the right elevation so that the lampshade overlaps the mirror and visually connects it to the tabletop items.

  • Playful pink dahlias relate to the flowery wallpaper and are a harmonious choice.

The custom stair runner is so playful. Our clients love colour, so it stole the show.

Insider advice

“The vestibule is dark and intimate, from floor to barrel-vaulted ceiling,” says Tori. New panelling boasts a high-gloss paint in a custom blue to match the wallpaper, reflect light and add drama. Coral and blue are repeated throughout the home, including on the striped stair runner and the blue kitchen cabinetry at the end of the hall. Hooks by the door are practical.
