The Fisherman Aesthetic Has Us Reeling

We're hooked on this laidback, coastal trend.

Late last year, we shared a few design ideas we thought we're going to be hot in 2025. And while we love a pop of red and a little pattern play, there's a new design trend we think we'll be seeing more and more of come spring and summer.

What is the Fisherman Aesthetic?

The fisherman aesthetic is is taking over Pinterest design pages right now. It's all about bringing the maritime attitude into your home—think stripes on stripes, fishy decor, and cable knit and plaid everything.

Now, this isn't the same as coastal design or country charm. The fisherman aesthetic is a hybrid of sorts, but it has its own sea legs. Looks for natural materials, colours you'd find by the coast, and playful motifs that say, Gone fishin'!

3 Elements of The Fisherman Aesthetic

Earthy Neutrals

Soft seaside colours like this one (Greecian Green 507) by Benjamin Moore are the easiest way to get into the trend. We also love pale blues, soft whites, and stone-coloured greys.

Cable Knit Everything

Expect to see your favourite cozy sweater stitch all over the place. Cable knit pillows, blankets, and footstools are a key element to this trend.

Natural Elements

Driftwood and natural stone are two of the most popular materials you'll see. The fireplace is an easy spot to incorporate the trend, like a driftwood mantel or stone surround.
