oscars 2012 countdown: party decor inspired by midnight in paris

Sunday is fast approaching, which means Oscar night is just around the corner! We're counting down the days and thinking of fun and fabulous ideas for the perfect Oscar party at home. So far we've covered party invitations, Hollywood decor ideas, and nominee-inspired themes. Yesterday we traveled to Mississippi in the '60s to transform your home into a southern oasis based on the Best Picture nominee The Help. But today we take our inspiration from the sets of another Best Picture candidate - Midnight in Paris. [caption id="attachment_11597" align="aligncenter" width="400" caption="via Wikipedia"] [/caption] To pull a decor theme from Midnight in Paris is obvious, but there are a few key elements that can really evoke the film's spirit rather than just Paris in general. Here are five ways to inject the film's French style into your party decor: 1 Gilded mirror Whether you frame a large mirror or a cluster of pictures, gilded frames create an opulent look reminiscent of a French museum or luxe Parisian interior. WilladsenDesign on Etsy, $85 US. 2 Lamp post decal As the main character, Gil, strolls through Paris at night, no matter what era he finds himself in he always seems to be framed by the lamp posts that line the city streets. Dormify, $65. 3 Toile What better pattern to honour Paris with than toile! You could find toile wallpaper, drapes or tablecloths, but the one thing I really remember about the movie's hotel room was the toile bedspread. Pottery Barn, $62.01-315.09. 4 Gramophone Music played an important role in the film - Gil's fascination with a Cole Porter record or triggering the change in eras . Finding a vintage phonograph may prove difficult, so mix the old world with the new with this iPad/iPhone speaker and docking station, equipped with an antique phonograph horn. ReAcoustic on Etsy, $442 US. 5 Crystal chandelier Okay, buying a chandelier just for a party may seem extreme, but if you're looking for a gorgeous light fixture why not invest in a crystal chandelier that's just dripping with Parisian charm? Horchow, $995. Which of these five decor accessories do you like?
