Eco-friendly living
Lack the budget to forest your home with huge household plants? An easy and inexpensive solution is to pepper your place with fresh sprigs of exotic greenery and petite pots to give it that refreshing, verdant vibe of i ndoor gardening. Place a single, sculptural stem of foliage in a bud vase (just remember to remove any leaves below the vase’s opening), set small plants in a shallow ceramic planter (but leave them in their original containers to ensure adequate drainage) or, in a temporary yet unexpected effort, rest some fern clippings in shot glasses placed underneath a cloche as an impromptu whimsical terrarium. decor-junehilow-kiln.jpg
Time to kilim
A calling card of Turkish decor, kilims are loom-woven wool area rugs that lack the plush pile of traditional hand-knotted ones. Flat enough to hang from your wall as a tapestry and durable enough to use outdoors or in a heavily trafficked space, the kilim is our favourite decorative import from the Ottoman Empire since the mosaic. decor-junehilow-scissors.jpg
Scissor hands
Just like chefs love their knives, crafters, decoristas and i ndoor gardenistas have a myriad of scissors for every task at hand, from pinking to pruning to... scrapbooking, perhaps? Their patina gets more beautiful with age, so hang your most-used tools within easy reach when crafting or display your collection as a conversation starter.
