Get the look: Elegant dream closet

Creating a classy all-white dream closet is ultimately all about the wardrobe.

It absolutely makes sense to decorate a closet with clothes, according to Vancouver-based designer Kari Player of Kari Player Home. That's why she chose for her 250-square-foot closet to be painted white

"I knew my clothes would be the statement," she says, adding that her colourful dress collection is definitely the star. (For the record, her shoes and bags come a close second and third).

Kari didn't struggle very long with the decision to convert half of the fifth bedroom in her 100-year-old Victorian into her dream closet (the other half is a beautiful ensuite). "I've always wanted my own closet, and the opportunity to create one in this house was such a treat."

As for the look, it had to be girlie all the way. And the best feature of all? The spacious walk-in closet means she can see everything at a glance.

The closet elements

1
When removing the drop ceiling, Kari discovered the sloped roof, which she decided to leave exposed for a more dynamic look.

2 The "bones" of this closet appear custom made but are in fact from a big box store. Before making the purchase, Kari thought carefully of her needs, the type of clothing she had and how she preferred to organize it. "I knew I wanted more space for hanging clothes and a few drawers for the rest." She gave shoes and bags prime spots on the open shelves.

3 Instead of using blinds, Kari covered three-quarters of the window in a frosted film to get the maximum amount of natural light while still maintaining privacy.

4 An ornate antique tray is the place for all things girlie: a vanity mirror, a vintage milk glass bud vase and sparkly perfume bottles.

5 Feminine touches include a mirrored vanity, a flea market crystal chandelier and glass wardrobe handles. "I wanted reflective pieces bevause there is so much light in here," says Kari.

6 A fluffy Tibetan shag rug gives the feeing of walking on a cloud -- an ideal transition from the marble bathroom floor. The Moroccan pouffe provides a pretty perch.
