They're saying that doughnuts are the new cupcakes but I'll never get over cupcakes. They're the perfect sweet treat, the ultimate indulgence and I like making them as much as I like eating them! My love of cupcakes went into overdrive when I first discovered Sprinkles in LA. This sweet little bakery, which always seems to have a line winding out the door and down the street, dishes up the most delectable cupcakes, topped with their signature polka dot. But the best part is the cupcake ATM, located right outside of the store. If the shop is closed, just punch your order into the ATM recessed into the wall outside the bakery and voila! A perfect cupcake glides down to greet you. It's sheer brilliance. There are a dozen Sprinkles locations across the US but alas, none in Canada. Thankfully, they sell the cupcake mix so you can whip up a batch anytime you feel like it. You can buy them inside the Sprinkles stores (if you're visiting the US) or at Williams-Sonoma (my favourite is the dark chocolate). Here's what the cupcakes look like in the bakery: And here's my at-home attempt: I can't quite master the icing and find it difficult to get it perfectly smooth like the experts at Sprinkles. Any advice for perfectly frosting cupcakes?
