That loopy edging -- quite easy to do -- shows how fun and versatile the art of crochet really is!

Skill level: 1

Stitches and techniques used
Chain, slip stich, single crochet, double crochet

Materials
Yarn (worsted weight; 100% acrylic)
Crochet hook, size 1/9 (5.5mm) or size needed to obtain gauge

Gauge
In patt, 15 sts=4". To save time later, check your gauge.

Note
Each sc, dc, and turning-ch-3 counts as 1 st.

Finished size
Approx 5 1/2 x 1", excluding edging.

Ch. 22

Foundation Row (RS): Sc into second ch from hook and into each ch across -- 21 sts total. Ch 3, turn.

Row 1: Skip first st, dc into each st across -- 21 sts total. Ch 1, turn.

Row 2: Sc into each st across -- 21 sts total. DO NOT FASTEN OFF.

Finishing
Working along sides of rows, (ch 20, slip st into next row) 3 times. Fasten off.

Variation
Instead of loopy edging, attach frindge along the top edge of bookmark. Trim fringe so it's even.
