How To Clean Your Marble Countertops
Keep your counters looking shiny and new.
Marble countertops are a classic for a reason. The natural stone is beautiful, timeless, and delightfully unique with one-of-a-kind veining. The downside? Marble is soft and porous, making it more likely to scratch or stain than manufactured materials or other tiles.
Common kitchen acids, such as lemon juice or tomato, are especially likely to leave etchings in your countertops.
Luckily, with a little TLC, you can keep your countertops looking fresh and sparkling. And if they’ve already taken a hit from etchings, we break down how to easily bring them back to life.
How to clean marble countertops
You’ll need:
- A mild dish soap
- Water
- A soft rag
- A microfibre towel
With a mixture of dish soap and water, gently wipe down your countertops as needed. Afterwards, go back in with a microfibre towel to mop up excess water and prevent streaks. Wipe in a circular motion for best results.
How to remove etchings from marble
Since marble is so porous, it’s prone to soaking up acids like coffee and tomato sauce. These spills result in “etchings,” which are essentially dull marks left on your countertops. If they aren’t too severe, you may be able to remove them.
You’ll need:
- #0000 steel wool
- Mild dish soap
- Microfibre cloth
Gently buff out the etched area with dry steel wool. Next, give it a wipe down with a mixture of water and mild dish soap. Wipe clean with a microfiber cloth.
Et voilà!
