Behind The Glamour Of This Primary Ensuite Lies A Greater Purpose

Good design brings out the best in a space, but great design brings out the best in the people who live there,” says designer Diana Rose. Case in point is this primary ensuite in a Toronto home. “I wanted to give the clients a bathroom that would make them feel incredible as they got ready for work in the morning, and send them to bed at night feeling their most relaxed,” says the designer. Luxe and shimmery, the space is a celebration of luster and sheen. “High-gloss paint on the vanity, sparkling glass in the chandelier, and show-stopping floors that just shine,” she says. “Who wouldn’t feel amazing surrounded by all that’s bright, silky smooth and beautiful?”

Faceted crystal sconces above the mirrors and a chandelier over the tub deliver five-star sophistication, but the hero here is the vanity. “Every item that the couple uses on a daily basis was indexed first, then we created the storage to hide it,” says designer Diana Rose. “Even the plugs for the blow-dryer and styling tools are hidden inside drawers.” Glass doors veil both the walk-in shower and the private restroom. “Even though they’re different spaces, they look streamlined thanks to the side-by-side doors.” The marble floor tiles, which are super glossy, have dramatic matte veining. “Every room should have one element that’s the star. In this room, it’s definitely the floor.”

The ensuite has 10-foot ceilings. To accentuate this vertical grandeur, Diana created a display tower (above). Hidden pot lights nestled in the shelving provide ambient lighting in the evening. The soaking tub isn’t just luxurious. “It doubles as an art installation, reflected in the windows,” says Diana. The same can be said of the floor-mounted tub filler. “Like all the hardware in the room, it has a regal brass finish that makes the space feel extra special.”
