“Wood ceilings run throughout the main floor of the cottage, and the dark-stained decorative beams set the tone for the living room,” says designer Keely Gow. The furnishings are all about comfort: you can curl up on the velvety ochre sectional or choose the classic wingback by the hearth for a little before-bedtime reading.

“While the colour palette remains neutral, [the living room is] enriched with a variety of materials that add depth and character,” says designer Candace Plotz. “The sectional is wrapped in buttery leather, the natural wool rug is nubby and the burled-wood side table adds a touch of sophistication.”

"Nothing in here is cold or clinical," says designer Darina Bellini of her Quebec cabin. To keep the emphasis on natural textural surfaces, there are oak floors and rattan chairs.
