The Kitchen Issue
Even if you aren’t planning a kitchen renovation, don’t you just love looking at beautiful kitchens? I think we must have a deep-seated emotional connection to this heart of the home. It’s where we prepare nourishing food, the place friends and family gravitate to, and it’s usually where the best conversations unfold. No wonder I love our kitchen issue so much.
At home, we recently renovated our kitchen and – after the dust settled – the whole family was fascinated at how we could all be in the room at the same time without stepping on each other’s toes! We worked hard with our designer to be sure the room supported how we live and cook, to make sure our kitchen would be perfect for us.
That’s what I see in this issue. Whether it’s our overview of 12 kitchens or our story on two walk-in pantries, each space is carefully crafted to reflect the style and lifestyle of each homeowner. I’m sure you’ll be amazed, especially if you are thinking of renovating. We also have a report on kitchen backsplashes. I remember that it took me forever to decide on one – and we ended up going for something daring. I don’t regret it...for the moment!
Also in this issue you’ll find two Ontario cottages with soothing, earthy palettes that I can just imagine glowing with candles and firelight on a fall evening (that cool, crisp autumn weather is just around the corner). For those with a more adventurous decorating spirit, we have a city house and urban condo that showcase our increasing willingness to embrace colour at home. It’s a packed issue – just like September itself, with all its back-to-school and work frenzy. I hope you can carve out some time to sit back, relax and enjoy this issue.
