Bold black

"Deep, moody black continues to be a huge trend for this fall,” says Christine. “Detailed moulding in combination with dark walls is a beautiful way to add warmth and drama to a space.” Add this bold hue to your home in solid palettes, or in smaller doses with graphic printed textiles and wallpaper. Steel grey

If painting your walls black is a bit too risky, consider a rich steely grey in its place. “I love using grey to create a completely monotone backdrop on which to layer in accents of gold and black,” says Christine. “It’s also amazingly fresh when used in place of white to create a modern farmhouse style kitchen – a rich grey feels graphic and modern, but in a very elegant way.” Denali wallpaper, Flat Vernacular, $200 per roll.

Royal blue

“For the past few years, we’ve been seeing lots of navy and darker shades of blue, but for fall 2015, it’s all about the bold, saturated royal blues,” says Christine. “Used as an accent colour with pillows, accessories, wallpaper and artwork, this colour adds a great graphic punch to any space.” Glazed glass lamp base, Pottery Barn, $476.

Warm white

“Similar to black, white is always in style, and for fall we’re seeing it in a more tonal, earthy hue,” says Christine. “As an obvious neutral, you can use white for anything and everything – walls, upholstery, textiles, art, lighting – but if you’re after a more modern feel, look for strong graphic black and white patterns.” Woolsley ivory pillow, CB2, $66.

Blush pink

Not a typical autumnal hue, blush pink is gaining favour as a preferred complementary colour this fall. “A soft blush pink is perfect paired with royal blue or burgundy,” says Christine. “It mixes surprisingly well with pretty much every other shade and can make more traditional fall colours feel instantly more modern and fresh.” Use muddy pinks to cover walls and window frames, but also feel free to use in fabrics like upholstery, drapery, linens and art in this colour. Rich burgundy

What’s old is new again as burgundy makes a comeback this fall in a big way. “Paired with pink or black, burgundy comes off quite fashion-forward and edgy,” says Christine. “I love this rich shade painted on the inside of a bookshelf, or as a smaller accent with pillows, art or candles – just a touch of this luxurious hue is really all you need.” Tubereuse candle, Diptyque Paris, $90.
