7 real-life Hallmark movie towns you can visit this winter

Who doesn’t love feeling of walking through a winter wonderland?

As the holidays draw closer, Hallmark movies take over our TVs, providing holiday cheer and lifting our spirits. How many do you usually watch? (We won’t judge!)

 

If you’ve ever caught yourself wishing that you could walk through one of the  quaint Christmas towns you see on screen, you’re in luck — many Hallmark movies were filmed in real-life Canadian locations. Here are our top Hallmark towns that you can visit for your next photo-op! Will you be able to pinpoint the exact locations of your favourite scenes?



1. Montréal, Qué.

 


Montreal is known for its blend of European, North American and small town architecture, which makes it the perfect location for any movie set! 

 

Which film? In Swept Up By Christmas, an antiques dealer and cleaner clash while downsizing a grand estate right before Christmas. Along the way, they help reconnect the owner with his past and uncover the mysterious secrets of the estate.

 

2. Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont.

 


Niagara-on-the-Lake looks almost unreal in the way that it fits perfectly a movie set. With beautiful buildings, historical landmarks and cute cafés, this town has a lot to offer!

 

Which film? The Holiday Calendar follows the story of a struggling but talented photographer who inherits a magical advent calendar that predicts the future.

 

3. Squamish, B.C.

 

 

Squamish is as picturesque as it gets. Surrounded by the Coast Mountains and Howe Sound, this town has the perfect blend of outdoor activities and cozy spots to relax.

 

Which film? In Christmas Cookies, a corporate agent is sent to shut down a cookie factory but gets swept up in a romance with its owner and the town’s Christmas spirit.

 

4. North Bay, Ont.

 

 

While North Bay is more of a city than a town, its cute atmosphere, inviting cafés and charm have made it into a classic destination for Hallmark movies.

 

Which film? In Christmas Inheritance, an ambitious heiress must deliver a special card to her father’s former business partner in order to get her inheritance. After getting stranded in an inn during a snowstorm, she finds romance and discovers the true gift of Christmas.

 

5. Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier, Qué.

 

 

Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier is known for its own-of-a-kind ice hotel; as a matter of fact, the only one of its kind in North America! Needless to say, it’s the perfect location for a holiday movie.

 

Which film? In Winter Castle, Californian Jenny attends her sister’s wedding at the infamous ice hotel and instantly melts for the best man.

 

6. Hope, B.C.

 


Hope is a picturesque town that sits at the foot of mountain ranges and is surrounded by stunning natural sceneries. Plus, it also offers plenty of quaint shops and cute restaurants.

 

Which film? Winter’s Dream follows the story of a former pro skier who rediscovers her passion when she suddenly falls in love with one of her student’s widowed father.

 

7. Almonte, Ont.

 

 

With its beautiful architecture and scenery, it’s no wonder that Almonte is a beloved location for holiday movies. Discover the cafés and shops while walking down the town’s lovely streets. Almonte also looks stunning during the fall!

 

Which film? Determined to revive her hometown’s annual ice-sculpting contest, law-school graduate Emma enlists the help of the town’s ace sculptor and wins more than just the contest in Christmas Festival of Ice.
