Autumn’s cooler climate provides a perfect excuse to take the party indoors. This season’s must-haves include coloured glassware, artisanal Portugal stoneware dishes and pitchers.

Trend 2: Bold Brass

According to Sonia Crete, buyer at Bouclair, objects with an antique gold touch will be the bearers of chic fall sophistication this season. Additionally, art deco is a big trend for fall decorating, says Tamara Robbins Griffith at HomeSense. Bold, brass detailing will be a welcome addition to sofas.chairs, side table and stools this year.

Trend 3: Maximalism

Leave the sleek minimalist look at the door, and opt for vibrant layers of texture, colour, and prints throughout your home, says Etsy’s resident trend expert Dayna Isom Johnson. When incorporating maximalism into your home décor, think about these factors: colour, comfort, and while layering, a cohesive theme. Maximalism encourages a more-is-more philosophy but you don’t want it feeling messy or unkempt. If you want to start small, try adding pillows with different prints, colours, and shapes to your couch or add art of various style and size to a wall. These small updates can make a major statement.

Trend 4: Colour Indigo, Ochre, Orange, oh my!

As a part of their 2019 trend guide, Etsy declared burnt orange colour of the year. With customers craving something more grounded, this earth tone has continued to grow in popularity.

A rich mustardy yellow colour like ochre is a fall décor must-have. “The colour is rich, autumnal and transitions nicely into décor schemes throughout the year”, says Tamara Robbins Griffith. Paired with shades of Indigo, ochre is a design essential this season.

Trend 5: Voluminous Velvet

This fall is all about rich, sophisticated velvet. "You’ll find pillows and furniture made from this dreamy fabric, featuring makeup tones like blush and burgundy," says Sonia Crete of Bouclair. Colourful pieces are also integral to bringing this très chic look together!

“Cozy layers made of mohair, chunky knits, felted wool and velvet feature prominently”, says Tamara Robbins Griffith. Velvet cushions and accessories add luxury and a sense of comfort to the home.

Trend 6: Smart Home

One of the most innovative trends is incorporating “smart” features into the home, creating a fully connected living space. Always ahead of the curve, IKEA just launched SYMFONISK, a new collection of WiFi speakers, in collaboration with sound experience leader, Sonos.

Trend 7: Nod to Nature

The organic look you’ll find is without a doubt the biggest autumnal trend this year. Whether your interior is comfy- cozy or straight-up chic. Sonia Crete suggest to convey a more organic look to your space, simply weave in a natural fibre basket, or add leaf print pillows and wall décor. And Dayna Isom Johnson agrees. Shoppers are gravitating towards items that are all-natural or sustainable, for a more holistic feel when it comes to decorating and living, they noted.
