foodie at heart: valentine's day addition

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!! For those looking for a cute and easy V-Day dessert (or for those just looking for an excuse to eat chocolate!) look no further. I was inspired by a fellow blogger to try my own version of her Chocolate Strawberry Hearts. Read on to check out my step by step breakdown. They are super delicious and really simple to do. A perfect (kind of messy) activity for kids too! What you need: - Strawberries - Semi-Sweet (or milk) chocolate - Any toppings  (I played around with smarties on some of my strawberry creations!) - Toothpicks - Parchment Paper/Cookie tray Step One: Break up the chocolate and melt it on low - stirring as you go so it doesn't burn. Step Two: While chocolate melts, cut washed strawberries in half and place cut side down. Using a toothpick, spear the two halves together (this makes the heart shape and keeps the halves together for the next step). Step Three: Dip the strawberry hearts in the melted chocolate (let chocolate cool slightly before dipping). I used a spoon to move around the strawberries in the chocolate and a fork to take them out. Step Four: Place chocolate hearts on a cookie sheet lined with Parchment paper. Remove the toothpick while the chocolate is still warm. At this point, add any extra details you desire. I added some smarties to a few of my hearts. You could add anything - sprinkles would be a fun touch! NOTE: The Strawberry can look really messy at this stage but once they cool you can break off any surrounding stray chocolate. I wanted them to cool quickly so I placed the full cookie tray in my freezer for 20 minutes. Step Five: Enjoy!!
