Designer Jennifer Ferreira transforms a Canadian boathouse into a tropics-inspired guest house.
Lakes and docks, the call of loons, rocky shorelines and rustic
family cottages are the hallmarks of Canadian cottage country, but that didn’t stop Toronto designer Jennifer Ferreira from drawing on a chic Floridian aesthetic when she designed this 1,000-square-foot boathouse on Ontario’s Lake Muskoka. Inspired by the homeowners’ annual vacation spot in Miami Beach, Jennifer took artistic licence to reference the elements in a sophisticated
black and white colour scheme coupled with organic touches. “I realized it’s an easy serenity that marks modern Miami style,” she says, “and that no matter where you are, you can always decorate to evoke that beachy simplicity.”
Living roomA nod to the white buildings of Miami Beach finds expression in the
all-white walls of the open structure, and a vase of tropical greens hints at Florida’s towering palm trees. Beyond this, the decor has a minimalist appearance that seamlessly brings the outside in.
