DIY felt napkin rings

A simple napkin ring fashioned out of a strip of felt and a decorative button brings a homespun feel to an elegant place setting. This project is easy to create – your sewing skills won’t be put to the test here – and requires the use of very little fabric. It will take you less than an hour to create a set of napkin rings for six place settings.

FYI: Designer felt is made from high-grade wool and has a fabric-like finish. It’s also soft to the touch, durable and doesn’t pill.

Step 1
Using a ruler and a fabric pencil, measure and mark a 1½" x 22" strip on the felt. Cut out the strip using scissors. Napkin-2.jpg
Step 2
Fold over one end of the strip about 1½" and make a ½" incision to form the hole for the button (these measurements are for a 1" button). Napkin-3.jpg
Step 3
With a needle and thread, handstitch the button to the felt strip 7" in from the end with the button hole. To form the napkin ring, take the end of the felt strip without the button hole, wrap it around the napkin several times, then feed the button through the hole.
