The look
Interior designer the late Robert Searle, of Fort Lauderdale, described the cottage interiors as "eclectic." They offer a stylish take on coastal comfort, with expansive and primarily white living areas warmed by natural fibers and punched up with hits of island colour. A woven rattan area rug warms the cool tile flooring, and vibrant teal-, gold- and green-striped upholstery and teal-coloured louvered-closet doors enliven the soothing space.
"I blended different [furniture] styles with different finishes," said Robert, "such as dark armoires with light painted four-poster beds and raffia headboards. We wanted the cottages to appear as if the furniture had been collected over time. Our goal was to make it feel like a home, not a hotel."
The inspiration
Robert said the inspiration for the interiors of the cottages came from his own childhood. "I spent many summers in Nantucket and blended the look here with Caribbean colours. I call it the 'Nantucket Key West Look.'"
