How-To - Painting

2013 paint colour trends

Our favourite paint companies predict the 2013 paint colour trends.

Modern neutrals with bold hits of electric blue popped up across palettes from a variety of paint companies for 2013. It’s always interesting to see how the fashion world, international design and popular culture (think: Downton Abbey) influence what we’re going to use to rejuvenate a space.

While neutrals, like soft greys, muted pinks and taupe, can do wonders to freshen up a room, try splashing a hit of colour in an unexpected place, such as a ceiling, inside a bookshelf or on a few cupboards. Here are some fresh picks that will likely make it onto your Pinterest inspiration boards — and maybe your walls — for 2013.

Dulux chose “Inspired Violet” as its main colour for 2013. “It is the deepest colour we’ve ever chosen and although it is a striking statement colour, it is easy to live with, giving rooms a tranquil and restful atmosphere,” says Tina Zappulla, assistant brand manager at Dulux Paints.

Where to use this colour

Tina recommends pairing this versatile hue with bright colours of a similar shade in bedrooms, family rooms and living areas. Or, be really bold by painting the ceiling or an accent wall.
