Crafty Bee:
"One of the things that I need to remind myself in terms of decor, is to think outside the box. A quick and easy way to update old furniture is with paint and stain, like I updated our coffee table, which was built over 50 years ago. In my opinion, white paint is always a fresh and clean update to pretty much anything. Don't get rid of your old stuff, just update it." -- Beatrice

Beatrice is the writer behind the blog the Crafty Bee, where she writes about her adventures in making her apartment a home while sharing do-it-yourself home projects, crafts and great findings.

Decor Happy: Match your decor
"An inexpensive way to update your home decor is to paint out the back of a bookcase in a colour that ties in with the room's decor. I simply used a sample pot of paint for $5 to paint the back of the bookcase in my daughter's bedroom. The coral colour is found in her headboard fabric and by repeating it on the bookcase, it makes the room feel cohesive." -- Vanessa

hodge:podge: Create impact
"The best bang for your decor buck is to use paint! Paint and spray paint are my best friends. A little can go a long way. Many thrift store and Craigslist finds have been transformed by a can of paint. Currently our family is living in a rental home. Upon moving in the walls were all painted in hideous colours circa 1980. With a very lenient landlord I was able to paint to my heart's content and give our home a fresh update with several cans of paint. One of my favourite rooms is my daughter's room which went from a cavernous garish green room to modern and fresh with white and dark brown paint. We painted vertical stripes on the walls, layering that with a DIY upholstered headboard and a vintage-inspired fabric to create a fresh and fabulous space!" -- Barbara

Cococozy: Trim it up
"Trim it up. Why not have your actual windows coordinate with the rest of your room's decor? Not drapery or window coverings, but the actual window itself. To add that extra bit of design flair to a space, paint the trim of your windows to match a prominent accent colour in the room. Love the chartreuse in this home office and adding that colour to the windows ties in the architecture of the room with the decor. To execute, all you need is a punchy accent colour, paint, a paint brush, a little tape and a steady hand!" -- Coco

Belle Maison: Accentuate your space
“One of the easiest and most affordable ways to instantly update your décor is with paint! Start by painting an accent wall in your bedroom, living room or dining room. Before you commit, order a few quarts of various colours and paint up test swatches on the wall. Puzzled on what shade to go with? Pull a single colour from an accent pillow or artwork in your space and go for it. You’ll be amazed at how a little bit of colour can completely transform a space!” - Julie Thigpen

Interior Groupie: Welcome a personal touch
"Spray paint is one of my favourite tricks for quick, easy, and budget-friendly updates. When our front porch desperately needed some sprucing up after the holiday decorations were removed, I grabbed my spray paint for this project. I took a plain welcome mat, cut out a stencil of the letter “K”, taped off a border and some stripes, sprayed my little heart out and voila - a monogramed welcome mat!" -- Heather
