Project: Framed papers

Picking a wallpaper can be as exhausting as it is exhilarating. So many styles, patterns, and motifs to choose from! And once you’ve finally settled on a style you love, it will most likely come in three or four different colourways, any number of which would look great in your home. However, with a little strategizing you can have the best of all worlds: Turn smaller pieces of your runner-up paper into framed wall art, and hang them against your primary paper, lining up the patterns to match what’s on your wall.

Materials
Primary wallpaper (1 to 2 rolls will cover a modest-sized wall)
Secondary wallpaper in different colourway
Picture frames with hanging hardware

Tools
Wallpaper paste and brush
Plastic float
Blue painter’s tape
Pencil
Utility knife

How-to
1 Apply paste and hang your primary wallpaper, if it isn’t already installed.
2 Use blue painter’s tape to temporarily tack up a sheet of the secondary paper where you want to place the frame, making sure to match up the pattern with the primary paper.

3 Hold the frame backing up on the wall and trace around it with a pencil.

4 Remove the secondary paper from the wall, cut out your piece, and insert it into the frame.

5 Use the hanging hardware to carefully place the frame in position over the primary paper.
