How To Choose The Right Type Of Bedsheets

Which fabric will give you the sweetest dreams?

Hitting the bedding aisle can be confusing. Egyptian cotton, silk, linen, flannel—which one of the many fabrics is the perfect match for you (and your bed)?

Follow this guide on how to pick the best bedsheets for you.

Egyptian cotton

Egyptian cotton is smooth, durable, resistant to pilling, hypoallergenic and of the highest quality. Sheets made out of this type of cotton are incredibly soft and usually come with a higher price tag. Beware, however, that Egyptian cotton is not resistant to wrinkles.

If you have the budget for these luxurious sheets, make sure you get real Egyptian cotton.

Pima cotton

Named after the Native American Pima tribe, who have been growing cotton in what's now Arizona for centuries, Pima cotton is handpicked just like Egyptian cotton. It's durable, soft and hypoallergenic. Plus, it has cooling properties and is generally less expensive than Egyptian cotton.

Flannel

Warm and inexpensive, flannel sheets are a great option for the colder months. They're made with a blend of wool, cotton and other fibres, and they have a thicker weave. Flannel is soft and cozy, budget-friendly and wrinkle-resistant. However, they are not moisture-wicking or breathable so if you tend to be a hot sleeper, it might not be the best choice for you.

Linen

Linen sheets are made from fibres of the flax plant and will give your home a cottagecore feel. They're durable, cooling and moisture-wicking—a smart choice for hot sleepers. Linen's stiffness may seem uncomfortable at first, but it softens up the more you wash it.

Bamboo

Bamboo is an environmentally friendly option for a luxuriously soft and cooling feel. Bamboo sheets are durable, hypoallergenic and breathable.

Polyester

Although pure polyester tends to be rough, polyester blends make for soft and wrinkle-resistant bedsheets. They're easy to wash and affordable. Just remember that polyester absorbs oil and grease, making removing stains harder.

Silk

Silk bedsheets are priced higher because they require delicate care during production—but are totally worth it if you love to feel luxurious in bed. Silk is naturally hypoallergenic and cooling and will also help your skin maintain its moisture, so you'll be sure to wake up with glowing, hydrated skin.
