1 Find an oversized print of a landscape scene in a monochromatic colour scheme.
2 Collect frames of different sizes (for a 58" x 38" print, I used 10 frames).
3 Prep the frames by removing any existing artwork, glass, staples, wiring, etc. Spray-paint the frames in a single colour that complements the print. Let completely dry.
4 Place the print on a flat surface and lay the frames over it. Play around with the placement of the frames, making sure to capture the most important segments of the print.
5 Once you’re pleased with the arrangement, take a pencil and trace around the inside of each frame. Remove the frames.
6 Slide a cutting mat under one of the traced segments. Using a ruler and an X-acto knife, cut out the image. Repeat.
7 Take each cut-out image and place it in its corresponding frame. Secure all four edges of each print to the frame using masking tape.
8 Attach picture-hanging hardware to the top of each frame.
9 Anchor the frames to the wall in roughly the same sequence as the original print. Start with the centre frames and then slowly work the other pieces around them.

A whimsical print by Paule Marrot adds a pretty touch to the dining room and balances out the handsome dark accents. “My husband, Corey, and I wanted to honour both the masculine and feminine in our home,” says homeowner and designer Chrissy Cottrell of Chrissy & Co. Design Savvy.
Minimalist furnishings ensure this small dining area doesn’t feel cramped. A sleek oval Saarinen-style dining table, paired with iconic Eames chairs, seats six without taking up too much visual space. Stemware and bottles stay neatly tucked away in the narrow built-in bar but can be put on display when the couple entertains.
The built-in stainless steel peninsula gives guests a great view of what’s cooking in the galley kitchen. Tucked into the cabinetry, the dishwasher drawer – perfect for a household of two – can handle a lot of dishes while taking up minimal space.
The cognac stain of the vintage-look schoolhouse stools contrasts with the contemporary kitchen’s stainless steel peninsula. The stools also complement the warm-toned hardwood floors and rich colours found in the artwork (a wall-mounted glass platter), pulling the whole space together.
The regal bust adds sophistication on the living room window ledge. “There’s so much natural light by the window, and it’s always changing, so I keep it simple with pieces that won’t detract from the view,” says Chrissy. “It’s more about the silhouette and texture.”
A living room corner gets the full decorative treament with a mix of pieces that have a Neo-Victorian vibe. The art wall – a standout feature – includes a vintage mirror, golden buffalo head and playful painted portrait of the couple’s toy poodle, Buttons.
The white Italian leather sofa provides negative space underneath the artwork, allowing it to shine. The large-scale piece by David Burdeny makes the narrow living room seem bigger than it actually is. “I really love art that pulls you into it,” says Chrissy. “It’s like a window into another room.”
When it comes to artwork and interesting accessories, people often neglect the bathroom, says Chrissy, who hung some of her favourite pieces on the charcoal wall. “Let’s face it: you spend several minutes in there, so it’s nice to have something interesting to look at.”
Upholstered in grey linen with brushed-brass nailhead trim, the tufted headboard takes centre stage in the otherwise sedate master bedroom. A sleek black and gold pendant light adds drama and helps draw the eye upward.
The master bedroom gallery wall showcases the couple’s history, with sentimental pieces that reflect their time and travels together. “I’m a big believer in buying what you love and then making it work,” says Chrissy, who splurged on custom framing in a mix of complementary shades and sizes.

This year, try making these Halloween-inspired desserts to celebrate the spookiest day of the year. These DIY ideas will help make the holiday that much more special and make sure your home is filled with the delicious smell of baked goods.
1 Halloween chocolate tarts
1 Let baked chocolate tarts cool completely before decorating.
2 Place one candy corn around the edges of each tart, in a neat circle.
Makes eight 4-inch tarts.
2 No-bake pumpkin cheesecake cookies
1 Add the softened cream cheese to a medium-size bowl. Using a stand or hand-held mixer, beat for 1 minute. Mix in sugar, pumpkin puree, vanilla and nutmeg. Fold in the food colouring if using.
2 Mix for another minute or until the mixture is homogeneous. Place to chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes or just until serving.
3 Right before serving, take the cheesecake batter out of the fridge. Using a spoon or small ice cream scoop add a couple tablespoons of batter at the center of half of the wafers. Top with the other half and gently press down to form a sandwich. Serve immediately.
Tip: Assemble the cookies at the last minute to prevent the wafer cookies from getting soggy.

3 Black and white truffles
1 Take truffles out of the fridge right before coating them with chocolate.
2 In two separate double-boilers, melt the dark and white chocolate. Quickly dip each truffle into either batter using a small flat spoon. Shake off excess and arrange on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
3 Place in the fridge to set for 10 minutes. Remove from the fridge a few minutes before serving.
Makes 50 truffles.
4 Pumpkin sugar cookies
1 In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, combine the sugar and egg whites.
2 Mixing on low speed, add up to 1/2 cup water depending on the consistency you want your icing to be. Mix until the icing holds a ribbon-like trail.
3 Separate the icing into two bowls. Fold in the orange colouring in one, and green in the other.
4 Place the icing into two piping bags.
5 Decorate as you please.
