6 Decorating Ideas That Won't Go Out Of Style
As trends come and go, it’s always good to keep some timeless designs in your back pocket.
We love a strong pattern or bold colour as much as the next person (hello, colour drenching), but it can be exhausting to constantly update your home. Incorporating elements that will stand the test of time will ensure that you save money and that your design never goes out of style.
1. Organic Materials

Organic materials—whether that’s wood, natural fibres like wool or cotton, and linens—ground your design in a long-lasting way. Especially when it comes to permanent fixtures like hardwood floors and natural countertops, these materials are stylish as well as practical.
2. Marble

Is there anything more timeless than marble? From countertops to coffee tables to backsplashes, there are so many ways to incorporate this luxe material into your decor. If you’re looking to save a few bucks, there are also plenty of marble-esque alternatives: quartz, porcelain, and even peel-and-stick tiles.
3. Crown moulding

Crown moulding has been used in design for thousands of years, going all the way back to Ancient Greece and Rome. The elegant patterns and ridges seamlessly blend walls from ceiling to floor. Even if your home didn’t originally come with crown moulding, it’s relatively simple to install it yourself and will add a lot of add character.
4. High contrast

The balance between light and dark in design creates depth and visual interest. White walls with moody furniture, black-framed glass windows, dark paint in a bright room—there’s no shortage of ways to create high-contrast looks. If you’re unsure about committing to big design changes, consider adding a mix of decor pieces to test the waters.
5. Stripes

Though patterns can be fleeting, stripes never seem to get old. This easily adaptable trend can be incorporated through throw pillows, linens, or even wallpaper. Thin and subtle, bold and vibrant, there are endless ways to try this timeless pattern.
6. Vintage finds

There are few things that can add more character and personality than second-hand or vintage pieces. From gilded mirrors to repurposed dining sets, having a mix of new and old items curates a designer look in your home.
