You’ve got design questions. We’ve got the answers. Designer and Style at Home contributor Karl Lohnes solves your decorating challenges.

Question:

We are building a new house in the country. What colours work for cabinets and walls in a farmhouse kitchen, living and dining room? I like off-white for the cabinetry.—Valerie W., via email

Answer:

For the cabinetry, I suggest an off-white like Benjamin Moore’s Seapearl OC-19 (left). For the walls, either of these colours, also from Benjamin Moore, will complement Seapearl’s cool green undertone: a soft foggy blue like Sleigh Bells 1480 (middle), if you have medium to dark floors; or a warm terracotta like Outer Banks 1206 (right), if you have light floors. Use one of these shades as a main colour throughout your house and allow it to become your neutral.
