The prettiest ways to arrange flowers this spring

Skip the large bouquet in favour of a whimsical cluster of blooms.

Floral designer Alison Westlake, owner of flower shop Coriander Girl, creates three groupings of spring posies to grace your home. No matter where you put them, they’ll be sure to brighten your day.

Vintage charm

From left to right: allium, bridalwreath spirea, double hyacinth-flower pink lilac, lady's mantle.

After a long grey winter, even the tiniest bursts of spring colour are more than welcome around the house. Old-fashioned flowering shrubs like lilac and bridal-wreath spirea add a touch of nostalgia to this sweet vignette.

High contrast

From left to right: old-fashioned bleeding heart, white forget-me-not, burgundy-leaved heuchera, looking glass cane begonia

Add some foliage power to your table with burgundy-leaved beauties accented with delicate arching sprays of pink bleeding hearts and the diminutive white blooms of forget-me-nots.

Editor's Tip: Create a foundation with foliage before layering in blooms. Here, glossy burgundy-leaved heuchera and variegated begonia leaves complement pink bleeding hearts.

Pretty fresh

From left to right: 'deft blue' hyacinth, double hyacinth-flowered pink lilac, fragrant solomon's seal, lily-of-the-valley.

Spring is a season of vivid contrasts, with its blooms of bright yellow, pink and blue. For the sake of variety, try a different tack: A quiet collection of green and white with a peek of pale purple provides a breath of fresh air.
