Before & After: A Modern Cottage Kitchen
This small cottage now boasts one of the best kitchen islands we've ever seen.
The owners’ wish list for their new kitchen was tailored to their interests: he is a home chef, and they’re both avid collectors of antiques and are passionate about vintage items and historic architecture. The new space checks off all their boxes and more.

Favourite Features
- Originally enclosed in a small room, the kitchen was relocated across from the living room to create a large open-concept kitchen/ living area. Shifting an exterior wall opened up views to the water and increased the natural light.
- The custom kitchen, which was hand- built by a local cabinetmaker, maintains the Craftsman-style character of the 1940s cottage and has stayed true to its natural, wild surroundings. The entire project was completed by local tradespeople.

- Although it’s not a naturally bright and airy space, the interior is washed in a warm off-white and anchored with moody forest shades like deep teal and amber walnut to blend in with the cottage’s surroundings.
- The kitchen was designed around the original wood windows. All of the interior doors were also retained, as were the original floors, which were painted.
