Which Side Of The Sink Should Your Dishwasher Go On?

Level up your kitchen’s efficiency with this simple tip.

Let’s be honest—does anyone really like doing the dishes? Even if your kitchen is fortunate enough to feature a dishwasher, you might still be craving a quicker way to get your dirty plates and cups out of the sink and into the washer.

To make the process more efficient, consider the placement of your dishwasher

The best spot for this hardworking kitchen appliance is all about practicality. When cleaning dishes, most people follow the scrape, rinse, and load method. Scrape off food into the green bin (typically located below or beside the sink), rinse off your dish, then load it into the washer.

Right-handed people tend to hold a dish in their left hand and scrape with their right hand, making it easier to load a dishwasher on the left of the sink. For left-handed folks, it’s vice versa.

That said, it’s ultimately dependent on your kitchen’s layout and your personal habits. If you’re used to having a dishwasher on the right side of your sink, no matter your preferred hand dexterity, you might prefer to stick to what you know (and what’s fastest for you).
