4 Design Hacks To Level Up Your Builder-Grade Home
Stray from typical builder-grade design choices with these four low-key projects.
From different design styles to varying layouts, there’s no shortage of what you can do with colour and pattern, flow, and furniture in your home. And yet, certain elements are the same in everyone's home, regardless of its design style.
It's often things that are part of the original construction and you’ve simply never thought to replace them. Think, light switch covers or default vents.
Give your home a thoughtfully curated boost by upgrading these sneaky spots.
1. Hardware
Upgrading your home’s hardware—including door handles and cabinet knobs—will instantly elevate your home. Consider extending this change to your faucets and shower head for a more impactful design.
Pro tip: head to an antique or vintage market for unique finds at a reasonable price.
2. Light switches
If your light switches are currently overlaid with a white plastic cover, you’re not alone. Swap them out for a quirky design, or keep it monochromatic by matching it to your wallpaper or paint colour.
3. Vents
Vents don’t have to be boring. Seamlessly integrate them into your hardwood floors with matching covers, or consider switching up their placement to be better hidden (but still functional) in your design.
4. Exterior trim
The trim that lines the outside of your home can have a dramatic effect on your curbside appeal. A darker trim pairs elegantly with rich red brick, while a splash of crisp white against a colourful panelled house has a coastal vibe.
