5 Ways To Make Your Old Wood Cabinets Look New

While wood cabinetry sounds timeless, there are certain giveaways that can make them look old and worn down.

From the controversial ‘90s-era honey oak wood stain to builder-grade hardware, your cabinets say a lot about your kitchen.

All-white kitchens rose to popularity during the farmhouse and minimalist trends of the 2010s, but we're seeing a return to natural hues. Plus, as more homeowners look for ways to save on home renos, you may be thinking of strategies to update your space without breaking the bank.

If you don’t have the budget or time to completely swap out your cabinets, painting them is a great way to make them look fresh. Incorporate warm, earthy tones for a timeless appearance

Another affordable key to refreshing cabinets is replacing the hardware. Go for handles that complement the rest of your kitchen and home, such as bronze hues to give an antique vibe or matte black to match warm wood panelling.

Add glass fronts

Rather than replacing the entire cabinet, think about installing glass fronts to one or all of your fixtures. Not only is this a great way to show off your fancy dishes, glass adds an airiness to your design. For added texture, consider frosted or reeded glass.

Stain them

Similar to painting, refreshing your cabinets with a wood stain enhances the material. Go for a lighter hue for a more natural Scandinavian aesthetic, or a rich mahogany for a quiet luxury feel.

Add molding

Incorporating trim or molding onto your cabinetry is easier than you might expect. Consider fully replacing your cabinets, or use peel-and-stick trim for a more affordable and personalized design.
