This nature-wrapped space is in the main 1,400-square-foot cottage. Designer Madison Krofchick chose brick-veneer floor tiles to impart a charming, almost antique feel. The wrought-iron furniture came with the property, and Madison updated its old green leather cushions with fresh, unfussy white ones.

“We think this room was once a balcony that was enclosed and that’s why there’s original raw cedar ceilings. We decided to leave them, as they add such warmth,” says homeowner and designer Victoria McKenney. A contemporary ceiling light, found online, fosters the eclectic look.

With the original dropped ceiling removed, the peaked ceiling and beams are exposed to stunning effect. “It lends the illusion of space, even though the square footage is really minimal,” says cottage owner Erin McLaughlin. “It also helps to circulate air.”
