Homeowners Stephanie Anevich and Brian Robertson are passionate entertainers, so on top of planning spaces in the couple’s new house to embrace the expansive views of Georgian Bay, designer Tracy Kundell outfitted the deck with a spacious sectional and lounge chairs to fit a crowd. Multi-functional backyard retreat

A row of resin wicker loungers enhances the pool area's luxurious country club vibe. Ipe decks at either end of the 20-by-60-foot concrete pool make for comfortable spots to relax. "It's much nicer to sit on a wooden deck than on concrete," says homeowner David.

Mountain views

After the owners and guests enjoy a dip on a hot summer day, the terrace offers them another vantage point from which to lie back and take in the view. The pool features a lagoon-like, irregular shape that reminds designer Luke Havekes of a pond.

Oasis

“I wanted this spot to feel cozy,” says the homeowner. “It’s a shady retreat from the sun and we can still watch the grandchildren in the pool.” The woven wood-tone furniture has a natural presence, but it and the Muskoka chair are resin for no-fuss care.

Cityside infinity pool

The slightly raised ipe wood patio enhances the infinity pool and gives the owners an alternate view of the yard. From here, it’s also easy to keep an eye on activity in the pool. A cedar hedge softens the cityscape behind a row of deck chairs that give a resort-like feel.

Resort to Luxury

Designer and homeowner Roxane Joly opted for a glass fence around the pool to keep nature on view from every vantage point. “I have a magnificent 18-foot-high hedge and a wooded area surrounds the house,” she says. “I wanted to hide this landscape as little as possible.” The hedge creates a cocooning feel in the stunning space where the 12-by-25-foot pool acts as centrepiece.

Homeowners Miles and Sano Goacher rejigged the layout of their backyard to make it more functional. In addition to having the pool moved and a new patio installed, the couple incorporated a stylish pool house.

Hamptons style

In this backyard reno, the existing oval pool was left as-is; the only alteration was to remove some concrete paving from around it. Now the grass comes almost to its edge. "It has more of a Hamptons look this way," says designer and homeowner Scott Yetman.
