The major irritants of this 3'7" x 7'4" room: the shower was dark and poorly equipped, there was no storage space and you could only feel stuck in the cramped space, cluttered with bathroom appliances.

Modern renovation

Classic & trendy

To give the new glass-enclosed shower stall a few extra inches, designer Stacy Begg angled the bath- tub. The free-standing tub, which replaced a clunky built-in version, is nice and deep, but looks sleek thanks to the negative space around it.

The glassed-in wet room opens up the small space, showcases the fabulous tile and lets natural light flow freely.

Stylish & breezy

The old swing doors were switched for space-saving pocket doors, and open glass panels replaced the original shower enclosure, flooding the room with light. Other small gestures add big impact: angling the tub slightly created extra space by the vanity, while the clean lines of the slatted wall and window shade make the room feel airy.

Beautiful functionality

The new tub (which replaces a bulky built-in) and brushed-gold fixtures make the space special. Says Sam, “Everyone remarks on the fixtures – the finish isn’t brassy, but soft, like the mood we wanted.” The five-foot-long wood vanity has tons of storage.

With the “forever” tiles and fixtures skewing neutral and traditional, Rebecca’s polished bathroom can now undergo easy, inexpensive accessory updates whenever the wind, or the designer’s tastes, change. One switch of the shower curtain, and it has a whole new look!

Parisian pretty

Its open bottom allows the eye to take in the stunning chevron-patterned floor, which is made of 12-by-18-inch marble tiles cut down to six by 12. “I got them for their striations,” says homeowner and designer Jenifer Glover.
